Director of Policy and Advocacy
Joseph Villela is a forward-thinking government relations executive with 15-year experience in advancing proposals aim at equity in community investments, educational equity, and immigrant inclusion through systems change. He joined CHIRLA as a policy advocate in 2005. By 2011 became director of policy and advocacy. A committed government relations professional and political adviser established a successful record in developing and managing legislative and budgetary campaigns to improve the lives of California’s most vulnerable. More recently, he directed the development of CHIRLA’s 13-point Golden Promise legislative agenda, of which nine initiatives became law. He graduated with B.A. in Sociology and minor in Chicana/o Studies from the University of California at Los Angeles in 2005.
