As COVID-19 upends California’s education and workforce systems, community colleges, universities, labor groups, community-based organizations, workforce development leaders, and employers are seeking a more flexible postsecondary learning system that would remove access barriers and address longstanding equity concerns.

In December 2020, the Cradle-to-Career Data System Workgroup submitted its first report to the Legislature, outlining a proposed plan intended to develop and establish for the first time in California a statewide longitudinal data system - a critical tool that would ensure existing education, financial aid, social service, and workforce information is fully leveraged to improve outcomes for all students from “cradle to career.”

The California EDGE Coalition is looking ahead for what this new year will bring, but it is indeed bittersweet as we send off into retirement two of the most instrumental figures in EDGE’s history, Barbara Baran and Rona Sherriff.
