FROM THE CALIFORNIA EDGE COALITION

Thank you to those who attended the Policy Forum on EDGE’s recent report, Competency-Based Education: A Strategy for Upskilling in California. The Forum featured a phenomenal panel of education experts to discuss the use of Competency-Based Education (CBE) as a tool to promote equity and economic mobility in California’s workforce.

. A new policy brief released by the California EDGE Coalition examines the ways in which other states are now successfully employing competency-based approaches to teaching and learning which allow students to move flexibly – and often much more quickly – through an educational program that is designed to make sure they know and can do what is expected of graduates.

The 2019-20 Budget Bill funds the creation of a LONGITUDINAL DATA SYSTEM to inform the public and policymakers, make it easier for students and parents to navigate the educational pipeline, and close equity gaps in educational outcomes.

We are pleased to announce that Zima Creason has been selected as the new Executive Director of the California EDGE Coalition.

On May 10th, the California EDGE Coalition sponsored a Capitol Legislative Briefing that featured presentations on how California can transform the way we collect, display, and use data to better inform all key stakeholders: individuals making life decisions, education and training providers, policymakers, businesses, regions, and researchers.
